Tributes flow in for Don Storey

CITY of Ryde sporting community have been rocked by the tragic death of North Ryde fitness fanatic Don Storey at the age of 47.

Don (pictured) was an outstanding touch footballer with Ryde Eastwood Association who represented the district at State Cup level for many seasons and a fun-loving character who enjoyed competing in marathons.

For the past four years he was a key member of the Ken Morrow touch football team that figured prominently in the finals series and as a youngster he played rugby league for the North Ryde Hawks - the club where his late father Doug served as president.

North Ryde RSL Community Club members would remember Don as one of the Club’s hard-working greenkeepers along with Ernie Rodgers for the past 27 years.

Family and friends flocked to Northern Suburbs Crematorium last Thursday to farewell one of nature’s true gentlemen.
Don’s great mate Paul Manley said he was still struggling to come to terms with the loss of a “fine friend.”

“He loved his family, mates and work and just staying healthy” reflected Paul.

“We played touch football together with another great mate of ours Kevin Denton and and I joined him on six of the 6 Foot Track Marathons he completed from Katoomba to the Jenolan Caves.

“I would call in and see him on a weekly ritual to discuss sport and current affairs or have a flutter on the races” said Paul.

Another close mate Peter Chant said Don would be sadly missed. “We’re all still in shock - Don was so full of life and a gentle soul who simply enjoyed the company of his family and friends” added Peter.
