HUNTERS
HILL HAPPENINGS
Thank you to 300 volunteers LAST WEDNESDAY over 300 volunteers were invited to morning tea in the Town Hall. This was done so that we could say thank you for the time given to Hunters Hill in an enormous number of different ways over the past year. We wanted to tell our volunteers, who work for the 40 organisations and groups around the municipality, how grateful we were and how we couldnt do without them. From bushcare groups, parents who organise young peoples local sporting teams, community carers for the elderly and disabled, volunteers with the police and SES, Community Aid, schools and pre-schools, respite care, community transport, Scout, Guide and Brownie leaders to those who have given time participating on committees, all have played a major part in the life of Hunters Hill over the past year. If you have been a carer in any way, we say thank you. * * * THE WESTMEAD Childrens Hospital Toy Drive is underway with brand new bins loaned by Councils Waste Contractor, URM. Theyve been decorated, with help from Council staff, and are being delivered to our schools and pre-schools which have agreed to house the bins for the collection of boxed new and unwrapped toys; there is also a box at Council, and the Hunters Hill Club has asked to participate also. The bins will stay at these points until the beginning of December when they will be collected and the toys taken to the Childrens Hospital in time for Christmas. The hospital requires all toys to be new, to eliminate risk of infection, and boxed and unwrapped, so that they can choose a gift appropriate for a childs circumstances and age. There is a list of suggestions attached to the lid of the bins and we ask you to remember that babies and toddlers, and children older than 11 years, are the age groups where shortage occurs most. Thank you to URM and the Council elves who helped decorate and took the bins to the schools. * * * THE JACARANDA Seniors Cruise, on Thursday November 9, between 10am and 2pm, still has spare spaces. If you would like to take in the wonderful sights of the jacarandas in bloom along the banks of the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers and enjoy a BBQ lunch, phone Council on 9879 9400. The Ferry leaves from Woolwich Wharf and transport to the wharf is available if required. * * * HUNTERS HILL Rotary presented Pride of Workmanship Awards to proud recipients, Barry Smith, General Manager of Hunters Hill Council, Senior Constable Fran Aliprandi from Gladesville Local Area Command and Alan Roose from Hunters Hill High School. All were praised for the high calibre of their work in their different fields. |
