Council’s plans to save water

Hunters Hill Council says it can save up to 1.5 million litres of water each year by implementing new water-saving initiatives.

It has made its Water Sensitive Urban Design projects a higher priority and earlier this year employed Josh Maree as its Stormwater and Sustainability Officer to get its projects up and running.

Mr Maree said Council had undertaken water audits of its top 11 water usage sites. Simple water-saving measures at these sites, including spring-loaded taps for outdoor use, and dual flush toilets, should significantly reduce Council’s own water usage.

A $40,000 NSW State Government Grant, combined with matching funds from Hunters Hill Council, will pay for the installation of rainwater tanks at various Council-owned buildings.

Council will co-ordinate demonstration days for residents at these sites to show how simple installation in the home is.
