Now, you have to take boating safety course

Boating beginners have to complete a boating safety course before sitting for the licence test now that NSW Maritime has introduced new regulations.

Previously, anyone wanting a boat or personal watercraft licence only had to pass a simple licence test.

The new regulations came into effect last month to better educate new boating enthusiasts and prevent accidents.

Charles Manfredi, who grew up in Lane Cove, has been appointed the new owner/ operator of the Sydney North and Northern Beaches division of the Australian Boating College, which is a NSW Maritime accredited safe boating course provider.

Since assuming his new role, Mr Manfredi has set out to promote greater safety on the waterways and a sense of responsibility among boat owners. The college offers a full day of interactive instruction, both on land and on the water, so that by the end of the day the students are familiar with the “rules of the water”, and have had individual, hands-on experience of handling a vessel, practising the rules, and recognising and understanding the use of safety equipment.
