Church bid fails

Plans to include Coxs Road Uniting Church on Council’s Heritage register have been abandoned after further investigations couldn’t prove the church had significant heritage value.

The matter was first raised in early September when Ryde Mayor Clr Ivan Petch asked that Council staff investigate the heritage significance of the former Uniting Church after concerned past parishioners found out it was being put on the market.

Findings by Tanner Architects showed that although the church obviously had some heritage value for the area, it was not of enough significance to add it to the Heritage register which lists a number of the area’s historic buildings.
